Top rumours gathered about the newest iPhone to be released

I have never been a huge fan of iPhone myself, but I can understand those who are in love with this phone and the whole company. Having read the last news about the newest - about-to-be-released - iPhone I also became excited about this product. Since the first iPhone was released in 2007 more than 146 million iPhones were sold until the end of 2011. During these years, several ‘generations’ of the phone have been released: iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S. In my family almost all ‘generations’ of the phone were present and were owned by different people, the first one is still functional. My husband turns it on sometimes in case he gets nostalgic, but by now it surely seems outdated by the newest generations of smartphones.

Please note that in this hub I will try to collect the most important and biggest rumours about the upcoming iPhone releases, therefore I will try to update this article regularly.

The older updates will also be left in the hub, so you will be able to find the newest rumours towards the end/bottom of the article, meanwhile the ones on the top will be the oldest updates still available in my hub.

1. 4+ inch screen

A bigger screen is rumoured from one side to the other side of the phone. It is said to be 4.6 inch, but no confirmations yet. What is 100% sure: the iPhone is one of the very few smartphone brands that still did not implement a 4+ inch screen into their products.

2. Retina display

The 4+ inch screen will hopefully come with the newest retina display, which contains much more pixels within the same area than the previous displays. The newest MacBook Pro comes with this display now.

3. 2-toned aluminium and plastic back or completely aluminium unibody

As you can see on the pictures, the newest iPhone is said to get an aluminium back, slightly similar to the one of the first iPhone. This will provide a more elegant look to the phone and will also protect it better than the previous plastic covers.

4. Liquidmetal behind the glass

That is an incredibly powerful metal, proven to be at least 2 times stronger than titanium. This material is said to be used as the protective layer behind the glass screen of iPhone5. In fact, Atakan Peker (founder of Liquidmetal) stated that this technology will need more time – a few years – to develop further. Rumours also came to light that liquidmetal will not support the glass, but the back of the phone.

5. iOS6

That is supposed to make the phone much more faster and safer as this iOS asks the user whether the application installed can access personal data on the phone or not. This option can be turned on/off later in the settings. This OS also updates Apple’s digital assistant (Siri), brings Facebook integration, passbook and other new, very useful apps together with a new, more user-friendly interface.

6. 2GB of RAM

Though there are some expectations that the RAM will be ‘only’ 1GB, it is still much more than the present 512 DRAM in iPhone 4S.

7. Quad-core A6 processor

This is the most unlikely rumour as Apple is not known for upgrading their technology this fast. The latest iPhone 4S has a dual-core Apple A5 processor and Apple revealed dual-core A5X for the 3^rd generation iPads in March, 2012. So a dual-core A5X is the most likely for iPhone5 as well.

8. Camera upgrade

The camera is rumoured to be 10 megapixel on the back of the phone, while 5 megapixel on the front. Compared to this iPhone 4S has 8mp/0.3mp.

9. 4G LTE compatible

Wireless communication of high-speed data will become much faster and smoother with the introduction of 4G LTE in iPhone5. Since Apple released a new iPad with this technology, it is more likely that this rumour will be right.

10. Better quality – higher price

With all the above possibly implemented in the new iPhone5 this phone will be more expensive than the previous generations. Apple also believes that people are willing to pay more for a better technology, great products and for a trusted brand like theirs.

According to the latest informations, the new iPhone will be announced on the 12th of September and it will hit the streets on the 21st of the same month together with the new iPad mini!

The newest, still unsure rumours about the phone say it will have:

• a smaller dock connector
• a depth of only 7,9 millimeters
• a 4,08 col screen
• 16:9 display with 1136x640 px
• aluminium unibody
• a rear camera of 8.0 mp and full HD
• a front camera that can capture full HD videos
• a smaller SIM slot
• the headphone jack/slot on the other side of the phone

One day after the official statements and reading the comments on hundred of sites about the newest iPhone I think I can confidently say: most of the people are disappointed with the newest phone of Apple.

I barely read any positive comments, most of the people feel that this iPhone was supposed to be one of Apple's biggest hits lately, but in reality this phone is not as good as it was rumoured to be.

And I write this despite the fact that most of the specifications that I have written here in this article before came true.

That really changed:

• 4 inch screen,
• Retina display,
• 2-toned aluminium and glass body,
• iOS6,
• Faster Wi-Fi / 4G LTE compatible,
• A6 chip,
• Camera upgrade (iSight) - although it is still 8 megapixels,
• Higher price.

Additionally, some other changes that took place:

• new EarPods,
• Lightning connector,
• maps designed by Apple,
• better Siri,
• iCloud,
• new SIM card (nano-SIM); so you HAVE to swap your present one.

Finally not only one, but two new iPhones were introduced to the market:

• iPhone 5S - pretty much the same as the iPhone 5, but this phone has a slightly better processor, a better camera and a Touch ID fingerprint scanner;
• iPhone 5C - this is basically the same phone as its predecessor, it just only got a 'cheaper' look with a new, colourful polycarbonate casing and a better FaceTime camera.

Of course, both phones came with the new operating system, the iOS 7.

All the people I know put high expectations in 2011, when everybody expected that a completely new iPhone will be released. Instead Apple came out with iPhone 4S, a slightly smarter version of the previous generation which caused some disappointment for many. Since that time, newer and more brave expectations and rumours came to light.

Still, Apple almost did the same when in 2013 it released the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.

Now the latest news state that the newest iPhone - the iPhone 6 - will be introduced in late 2014.

Obviously, none of these rumours are for certain as people tend to let their imagination run free when it comes to speculating about upcoming technology products, but as before, some of these predicted features might come true in the end.

• 4.7 inch Retina display screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (FULL HD) or an even bigger, 5.7 inch screen, according to other sources
• Sapphire crystal for the screen
• Edge-to edge design
• Liquidmetal, very thin (5.5 mm thick) body
• Disappeared home-button (button-free display) with updated Touch ID
• Better camera (13 megapixels)
• iOS 8
• Tougher construction (so screen won't break as easy as before)
• Apple A7 System-on-a-Chip (SoC), or possibly an A8 processor
• 5G Wi-Fi connectivity
• Better battery
• Wireless charging
• Possibly 128GB storage

All in all, what I can say is that Apple must keep its phones up to date, because otherwise surely but slowly it will lose some of its market share to the newest Android devices packed with big screens, huge resolutions and unbelieveably fast processors.
